What is a Meaningful Day?

A Meaningful Day includes:  purposeful and meaningful work; self-empowerment and personalized relationships; skill development and/or maintenance; and social, educational and community inclusion activities that are directly linked to the vision, goals and desired personal outcomes documented in the individual’s Service Plan.

Description of Services

State Funded Services

Adult Developmental Vocational Program (ADVP):  is a facility-based program that supports participants in their goal of living and working as independently as possible. Participants are involved in work, educational, and independent living skills activities that help them to reach these goals. An integral part of the program is the Adult Basic Education program offered in cooperation with Cape Fear Community College, during which students work on academic and employment skills. For those that do not qualify for the ABE classes, Coastal also offers the Compensatory Education (Comp Ed) Program

Supported Employment: Our staff works with individuals and groups on determining the types of jobs individuals are interested in and can perform. Staff work with individuals on acquiring job skills, completing applications writing resumes, and interviewing skills. Upon being hired, they are taught the specific job skills needed and how to function in that particular job environment.

Community living Facility and Supports: A Medicaid funded day service that supports participants in their goal of living and working as independently as possible. Participants are involved in work, educational, and independent living skills activities that help them to reach these goals. Innovation Services

Day Supports: Involves individuals in activities in the community and in our facility. Participants learn independent living skills, self-advocacy, leisure and recreational activities, basic educational skills, and inter-personal communication skills. Services can be provided on either a group or individual basis depending on the individual’s needs.

Innovations Supported Employment:  Our staff works with individuals and groups on determining the types of jobs individuals are interested in and can perform. Once that is complete, staff members work with individuals on acquiring job skills, completing applications writing resumes, and interviewing skills. Once an individual is hired, they are taught the specific job skills needed and how to function in that particular job environment Once an individual is hired, they are taught the specific job skills needed and how to function in that particular job environment

Long Term Vocational Supports:  After and individual is hired and more intensive support is no longer needed, our staff that is available to the individual and the employer in the event that issues should arise.  Staff will also check with individuals and employers on a regular monthly basis to ensure that there is no ongoing issues or problems.

Community Living and Supports (CLS): Provides habilitation and skill building to enable participants to acquire and maintain skills which support more independence.  CLS augments the family and natural supports of the participant and consist of an array of services that are required to maintain and assist the participant to live in community settings.

Community Networking: Assists individuals with getting involved in their community through involvement in community activities such as clubs, associations and school. Helps the individual to develop natural supports in the community.

Respite: Provides periodic or scheduled support and relief to the primary caregiver from the responsibility and stress of caring for the individual

B3 Services
