| All persons referred to Coastal Enterprises Evaluation and Work Adjustment Program are screened by a committee to determine if they are appropriate for our services. Upon acceptance, and individual enters the Vocational Evaluation Program to determine the vocational strengths, challenges, and employment potential. This is accomplished through academic testing, interest inventories, work samples, behavioral observations, situation assessment and physical capabilities evaluation. Making use if the information obtained during the evaluation process, the evaluator guides the consumer in choosing realistic vocational goals for employment based on interests. |
By developing a career plan of action trainees have the opportunity to participate activly in their goal plans for their chosen pursuits in life.
Work adjustment is the training step in the rehabilitation process designed to develop individuals’ understanding of work and the demands competitive employment will place upon them. During the work adjustment phase, clients are assessed in developing positive personal behaviors and appropriate social and work attitude. The components of the work adjustment phase consist of placing clients in an actual work experience setting, individual counseling, group counseling, and behavior modification. Each trainee focuses on his/her individual goal plans by utilizing a combination of the above services.
The job development specialist engages in the developing of community employment situations. Job development is matched to the trainee’s desires, abilities and experience as well as their dependability.
| The job specialist assist the trainees in completing applications and learning interview techniques; as well as transporting them to interview and providing information about resources available for child care, transportation, etc. to ensure the trainee's dependability to the job. After placement, the job placement specialist will assist in completion of necessary paperwork with the employee's personnel department (I-9, W-4, etc.). Once a trainee has been hired, the job coach will instruct them in their duties and will remain with them until the job coach is satisfied that they can continue on their own. The job coach and the VR counselor will perform periodic follow-ups to assess progress. |
Support services are available with assisting the trainee in finding competitive employment in the community, providing intensive support initially and long term supports.
Employment in the community where individuals leave our office in a group (usually a team of 2 – 3) bound for a contract site to do a specific job. These small groups receive close supervision and support.
ADVP is designed to work with adults with developmental disabilities in a vocational training setting. This program is made available through the North Carolina Department of Mental Heath and Coastal Enterprises. Prospective trainees must first be screened by Southeastern Center for MH, DD and SAS, and be eligible for Developmental Disability services. Trainees are given opportunities through individual goal plans to participate in a variety of skill development areas” Special Olympics and on-the-job training. Trainees are taught appropriate behaviors and progressive work habits. Each trainee receives compensation for his/her work. All ADVP participants are challenged to develop and work to their full potential.
